Dis-Tanz-Solo

Material creation and method development for class material

I think one of the great things about contemporary dance is its diversity of possible movement languages and its ability to take concepts from other movement disciplines and adapt them into the style. This is done a lot in contemporary dance already, however I have noticed that modern functional strength and conditioning training methods aren't really being adapted that much into a contemporary dance context. This is a shame, because I think it could be something that greatly benefits a dancers overall fitness and ability to perform more complicated movement patterns.
I want to develop material that I can use for teaching dance movement centered around functional range, mobility and body-conditioning. To acheive this, I would like to devote more time toeveloping movement methods by conducting research into physical ideas from different movement practices. I will use this research as imputes to generate a range of material for teaching classes and workshops.
The material I plan on generating will be an asset to dancers strength and condition, as well as increase their functional range of movement. Furthermore, with my background in body-work, the movement will be designed to help reset postural imbalances and act as a tool to gently heal and free the body through movement.
I would like three months to research cross training activities such as Kinstretch, Martial Arts, human movement, animal movement and functional training, then two months to create, develop and test movement exercises. Over the period of 5 months of physical research and movement creation, I plan to develop enough material to teach a series of classes and workshops. During this process I plan to take extensive notes and record my research and class material. I will also publish some of this material on social media and my website and share the process by regularly recording a movement journal.
